In 2018 and 2021, the state of Maryland suffered firefighter fatalities due to Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST)  failures as a result of a lightning strike.**

The number of fires attributed to CSST failure and lightning is unknown.
Standard fire reports do not allow for tracking of CSST involvement.

Lightning Fire Data
www.lightningfiredata.com

We are conducting research into CSST failure and fires. This research is extremely important and will serve as a basis for additional legislation and training. If you encounter a lightning fire where CSST was present please complete the form found at www.lightningfiredata.com. We are interested in data related to fires any time CSST is present regardless of confirmed failure. We are accepting submissions from all 50 states as well as past fires. Please share this information with everyone you know in the fire service. To date we have documented over 20 CSST fires in the past five years in the state of Maryland however we expect there are many more.
